Membership Categories
Professional Membership is open to individuals currently employed in the field as an activity director, co-director, assistant, or consultant.
Currently our membership includes Activity Professionals in long term care facilities (including nursing homes, homes for the aged, and chronic care units in hospitals), as well as day care centres and retirement homes.
Note: this membership category was previously referred to as Active Membership.
Student Membership is available to individuals who are full-time students in a post-secondary institution. (Proof of student status required. *)
Note: APO no long offers Associate Membership.
Business Membership shall be those businesses and/or vendors who provide products and services to the field of recreation/leisure in the healthcare sector.

Student Members benefit from the following:
- Receive reduced fees at conventions and workshops
- Receive newsletter four times per year
- Receive “Activity Awareness Week” package
- Eligible to participate in Activity and Mentor of the Year awards
- Have access to “Members-Only” section on the website
Business Members benefit from the following:
- Receive a listing of the current membership
- Receive reduced fees at the convention for one member from the corporation
- Receive special rates for advertisements in the member newsletter
- Receive newsletter four times per year
- Receive reduced exhibitor fees at convention
- Are promoted on the APO website with a link, logo, and brief description of the corporation
Membership Renewal
To renew your current active membership (now called Professional Membership) with Activity Professionals of Ontario, visit this page for online renewal processing. Indicate in the comments field that you are a renewing member.
Should you prefer to renew through the mail, please download the membership form from the bottom of this page, complete it, and mail the form along with payment to the APO Head Office before the deadline.
Processing time: Please allow two to three weeks for processing of renewals. In general, membership renewals are processed within a few days of being received at the APO Head Office. However, the processing time may be longer in some instances, particularly in cases where documents are incomplete or missing. Should have any any questions about the processing of a membership renewal, please contact us.
Membership Fees
The membership year is from April of the current year to March of the following year.
Renewal Membership Rates for 2013
- $165 for a New or Renewing Professional Member (formerly called Active Member)
- $50 for a Student Member (new or renewing)
- $190 for a Business Member (new or renewing) and new memberships will remain valid through to March 31, 2014.

Please print the application form, complete it, and mail it to APO along with your cheque to cover the membership fee. Thank you.

* Students: Please note that in order to qualify for membership with APO, you must include with your membership application proof of full-time studies at a recognized college or university. This should be in the form of a letter from your post-secondary institution, stating that you are registered in full-time students. The document can be mailed or faxed to us, or scanned and submitted by .
Professional Membership is held by an individual, even if an employer pays for the membership. Membership is non-transferable, so even if you leave your current place of employment, your membership will stay with you wherever you go.
Business members, please your corporate logo, along with a short description of the services/products you provide so we can feature this information for you on our website.
