Position:       Manager of Recreation and Volunteers

 Hours:            Full Time (Monday to Friday, Saturdays Once a Month & Flexible Hours)

 

Qualifications:       

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Recreation & Leisure Studies, Therapeutic recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university

  • Extensive knowledge of Montessori Programming for the elderly, validation techniques, and P.I.E.C.E.S..

  • Experience in managing staff and volunteers in a retirement home and long term care setting is required

  • Experience designing, planning & managing recreational activities and therapeutic programs for seniors

  • Demonstrated ability in delivering person centered care

  • Ability to conduct a variety of programs for individuals and groups of residents

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required.

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Positive attitude, caring and energetic personality to represent Shepherd Village in a professional and positive manner.

  • Able to meet the physical stress of recreational programs with elderly people (i.e. bending, lifting, walking, pushing wheelchairs, room setup)

  • Competency in documentation practices and computer applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel)

  

Responsibilities     

 You are a dynamic independent self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.  Your passion for promoting an improved quality of life for mature adults is  evidenced by your knowledge and understanding of the aging process and its significance to mature adults programming.With your knowledge of validation  techniques you will direct the establishment of a Memory Support Program to enhance  the residents comfort, independence and control. You will ensure the use a variety of innovative, creative and stimulating activities that meet the resident’s social, intellectual, emotional and physical needs.
