DIRECTOR OF ACTIVATION – ONE YEAR FULL TIME MATERNITY LEAVE CONTRACT
JOB SUMMARY:
The Salvation Army Hon. Ray and Helen Lawson Eventide Home located in Niagara Falls, is a not-for-profit Long Term Care home seeking an experienced, creative, and insightful Temporary Full -Time Director of Activation for a one year Maternity Leave Contract.
The Director of Activation is a member of the management team who is responsible for managing, training, and mentoring department employees as well as co-ordinating, planning, scheduling, implementing and evaluating all programs and activities within the Activity Department. This includes ensuring the provision of a wide range of services and activities to meet the Residents’ physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

Develop programs that will promote sensory stimulation and a sense of well-being for each Resident.
·
Network with Residents, Staff and family members on matters which may enhance knowledge concerning the Resident.
·
To simulate and motivate Resident participation.
·
Select and train Staff to provide understanding as to how programmed activities contribute to Residents well-being at Eventide.
·
Network with all department heads regarding Activity programs and Residents’ involvement.
·
Plan special events.
·
Promote and/or be available for evening and weekend programs.
·
Prepare event calendars.
·
Assist and Support the Residents’ Council in holding meetings and voicing their concerns and suggestions, and in turn, respond to issues raised by the Residents.
·
Ensure that all required reports and records are completed.
·
Facilitate monthly department meetings and participate in home specific committees.
·
Responsible for the oversight of all student practicums.
·
Maintain budget control of operating and capital expenditures in cooperation with the Executive Director.
·
Facilitates department budgets by ensuring sufficient resources/equipment is available through budget preparation.
·
In collaboration with the Nursing Department, implement and/or support Restorative Care Programming.
·
Ensure effective communication with all Residents, family members, staff and volunteers.
·
Knowledgeable of the Residents’ Bill of Rights, MOHLTC Long Term Homes Care Act 2007 and MOHLTC Long Term Homes Care Act 2007 Regulations.
·
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
·
A post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
·
At least 2 years’ experience in Long Term Care preferably in a Managerial Role.
·
Knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation and leisure.
·
Knowledge of community resources.
·
Demonstrates effective leadership, interpersonal and organization skills.
·
Competency in Point Click Care and MS Office an asset.
·
Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
